Artificial Intelligence-Extended Reality (AI-XR) mediated international student experiences
Background
This project investigates the potential of an Artificial Intelligence and Extended Reality (AI-XR) curriculum framework to support higher education institutions in creating immersive and personalised hybrid learning experiences. The research focuses specifically on how these technologies can support international students.
Challenge
Currently, there is a lack of clear guidance on how to effectively integrate and measure the impact of combined AI and XR technologies in education. Traditional “one-size-fits-all” teaching methods often struggle to fully engage and support the unique educational needs of a globally connected international student body. As the rapid development of AI challenges educational expectations, it is becoming increasingly important to explore more adaptable, personalised learning environments.
Creative approach
A mixed-methods approach will be used to explore effective ways to integrate AI-XR to enhance the international student journey. The study will evaluate how these emerging technologies impact cross-cultural engagement, cater to diverse learning styles, and shape the overall international student experience. If prototyping is feasible, the research will also incorporate co-design methods involving students, teachers, and other key stakeholders. Practitioner-facing dissemination, such as blog posts, magazine essays, or podcasts, will be considered to share actionable insights.
Outcome
As this project is in its early stages, it seeks to advance sector knowledge and ultimately deliver a practical AI-XR curriculum framework to inform future pedagogy. It aims to help educational institutions by designing more accessible, culturally inclusive, and globally responsive environments that enhance learning experience among international students.
