Professor Timothy Jung named among world’s top 1% most influential researchers
Professor Timothy Jung, Director of the Creative AR VR Hub at Manchester Metropolitan University, has once again landed on Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers list—marking his second consecutive year of global recognition (2023 and 2024).

The Highly Cited Researchers list recognises influential academics from universities, research institutes and commercial organisations across the globe who have demonstrated exceptional and wide-ranging impact in their fields. It offers valuable insight into the international research landscape, highlighting leading talent and emerging trends across countries, regions and institutions. Selection is based not simply on citation volume, but on the quality of research outputs and the influence of those citations.
Professor Timothy Jung, Professor of XR and Director of the AR & VR Hub within the Faculty of Business and Law, is internationally recognised for his pioneering work in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality across tourism, cultural heritage, education and training, and healthcare. He has published extensively in these areas, authoring more than 200 journal articles, book chapters and conference papers, alongside 10 books. Professor Jung also serves as President of the International Association of Immersive Technology Innovation (IAITI) and is Conference Chair of the annual International XR-Metaverse Conference.
Reflecting on his inclusion in the list, Professor Jung said:
“I am truly honoured to be recognised as one of the world’s most influential researchers—placing in the top one per cent of cited researchers globally—for the second year in a row (2023 and 2024). This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of our entire research team at the Creative AR & VR Hub over the past decade. I am deeply grateful to Manchester Met for its continued support, which has been instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.”
