Virtual Reality as a Possible Therapy to Improve Emotional Well-being
Background
This ongoing PhD project explores how virtual reality can be used as a tool to enhance emotional well-being through innovative approaches.
Challenge
A defining strength of virtual reality is its ability to create a sense of presence. This research investigates how feeling present in virtual environments influences users’ emotional outcomes, both in the short and long term.
Creative Approach
A mixed-method approach is employed, beginning with qualitative interviews that inform the design of a tailored virtual reality application. This application is then tested through surveys and facial analysis to better understand how presence impacts emotional well-being over time.
Outcome
This is an ongoing project, with final results currently being analysed. Findings will be presented in the PhD thesis and forthcoming publications, contributing to a deeper understanding of how virtual reality can be designed to promote emotional well-being and more meaningful user experiences.
