Developing a new Metaverse Business Model for eSports and Entertainment

Background 

In collaboration with MGI Arena, this PhD project aims to develop a new Metaverse business model for eSports and entertainment.

Challenge

In terms of eSports, the industry is heavily reliant on sponsorship and advertising revenues as they remain the primary sources of income for teams, competitions, and broadcasting/streaming platforms. Furthermore, research examining the role of the Metaverse in eSports is still in its early stages and remains relatively scarce.

Creative Approach 

A mixed-methods approach using focus groups, semi-structured interviews and AHP surveys will be used to uncover the most important elements of Metaverse business models for eSports and entertainment. 

Outcome

While this thesis remains in progress, the project seeks to advance industry knowledge on the implementation of Metaverse business models within eSports.
